Find Your Voice: How to Overcome Fear and Speak with Influence

Introduction

Have you ever felt like your voice is stuck inside, longing to be heard? Many Christians struggle to find their voice—whether in parenting, leadership, or sharing their faith. Finding your authentic voice is essential for influence and growth. In this post, we’ll explore how to overcome fear, speak with confidence, and let God use your unique voice to impact others.

Why Finding Your Voice Matters

Did you watch the Oscar-winning movie, The King’s Speech? This true-to-life story about King George VI shows how harrowing a speech impediment can be. The film follows a tutor (played by Geoffrey Rush) digging into George’s psyche to unleash his voice.

It’s hard to imagine being royalty without the gutturals to back it up. Or is it? From my view, a general speech impediment exists with people everywhere. The question is: What needs to happen to unlock your voice? A quirky mentor? New techniques? Psychological analysis? While it’s different for everyone, one thing is clear—you need to figure this out because your calling is at stake.

Finding Your Voice as a Parent

How many parents need to find their authentic voice for the sake of their kids? Research shows that children need a strong parental voice for guidance and security. Little Johnny benefits when his parents are confident and clear in their communication.

Discovering Your Leadership Voice

I once sat down with a church planter who was struggling with his team. After listening to his concerns, I told him, “You need to find your leadership voice.” He responded, “No one has ever challenged me in that way before.”

The following week, after their church service, his people asked, “What got into you?” His newfound confidence was noticeable. He told me later, “This whole year has been about finding my voice to lead.” Unsurprisingly, his personal growth has positively impacted his church.

Speaking Up for Your Faith

I train hundreds of Christians to be “influencers” for Jesus. Most of them struggle to know how to speak about spiritual things. While I provide tools to help, ultimately, they need to step up and use their own voice. Influence flows best when people express themselves authentically and naturally.

A Story of Courage and Influence

I received an email from a shy mom who went through our training. She shared this powerful story:

“Recently, at church, I had an amazing experience with a young woman who sat next to me during service. During worship, I heard the Lord tell me to tell her that Jesus loves her and that everything she is going through will be okay. I was afraid to speak, but I obeyed Jesus and spoke up. She thanked me and asked if I really heard that. I told her, ‘Yes, I knew it sounded crazy, but I had to tell you.’ She stood up with me the rest of the worship time, looking more at peace.”

God Wants to Use Your Voice

How about you? Is a voice inside yearning to get out? Maybe even screaming? God wants to make you an influencer. He wants to use you—your thoughts, your personality, and your way of speaking. Trust Him. Begin to flex those vocal cords. Find your voice!
